Memorable Songs: Originals vs. Covers - Part 2
“Imitation is the sincerest form of Flattery” is an old proverb that is probably never truer than in the field of popular music. Songs such as Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender,” Bobby Darin’s “Dream Lover,” and Buddy Holly’s “It’s So Easy” all have been recorded dozens of times by a variety of artists after the release of the original version. In this presentation we will be able to contrast a prominent cover of a song from the first decade of Rock & Roll with the original version and examine how changes in tempo and arrangement may, in some cases, have even made it better.
