Rock & Roll Goes Hollywood - Part 1
Ever since the beginning of the sound era, film producers and directors have recognized the importance of including music in their motion pictures. This was done as part of a soundtrack or by including songs performed either by the film’s actors or by vocalists who dubbed them. Many great Rock & Roll songs have been an integral part of this process, particularly in such films as “The Graduate,” “Almost Famous,” “Goodfellas,” “Easy Rider,” and “Ghost.” During this presentation we will have an opportunity to examine how outstanding directors such as Martin Scorsese, Mike Nichols, and Francis Ford Coppola made effective use of songs from the first decade of the Rock era to create a mood or remind the audience of the time frame in which the film was set.
